Fourteen year-old Ithaca, New York native, Canen, began singing at age eleven. At the encouragement of her vocal coach and mentor,
singer/songwriter Anna Coogan, and backed by a band of musical heavyweights (Mike Stark, Brian Wilson, Hank Roberts, Brian Dozoretz and
others), she recorded two CDs at twelve years old. Her cover of Bill Withers’ Ain’t No Sunshine on her second CD topped 100,000 YouTube
views in a year.
Canen's songs have been played regularly on radio stations in 7 countries, including on WFMU, (metro NYC), and blues and roots (UK), and
lauded in many national and international reviews. Two of her cover songs, as well as an original song she wrote, were selected by the
International Unsigned Only Contest as Semi-Finalists in 2015, making her one of the youngest artists featured in this top ten percent category,
and in 2016, she won Semi-Finalist in two vocal categories. In 2016, Canen was featured by Carrie Lazarus in her “Extraordinary Talent” show
on NewsChannel 9, and opened for Carrie’s annual fundraiser at the Crouse Hinds Theater. She has also received multiple honors and awards
at school for vocal performance.
She currently takes vocal lessons in jazz, bebop and bossa nova with jazz master, Cookie Coogan. In her spare time, Canen records her own
covers where she sings lead and backup vocals, plays ukulele, piano, and guitar and mixes the tracks together. Her YouTube channel now has
over 30 videos, which can be accessed through her website, www.canensings.com.
